Competitive Strengths

Broad experience across multiple market cycles

MREG’s highly experienced team, which includes former members of senior management from a variety of institutions, offers direct, multi-cyclical equity and debt expertise. The firm’s principals have participated in billions of dollars of real estate-related transactions and have broad U.S. and international experience in equity investments, debt financings and other credit investments (single assets and portfolios); mergers and acquisitions; public offerings; and private fund and public company management and operations.

Competitive Strengths

Extensive national and international industry relationships, enhancing sourcing and opportunity flow

MREG maintains relationships in the public and private real estate investment space across owner-operators, developers, banks, brokers, and other key market participants. Many seek feedback from the firm based on our industry presence and reputation for creativity and solving problems.

Competitive Strengths

Prudent risk management, disciplined investment process

MREG places a significant emphasis on risk management and structuring downside protection for investments. The investment team carefully screens opportunities, seeks to utilize leverage conservatively, and adheres to a disciplined underwriting approach. A hands-on Investment Committee review process provides meaningful checks and balances. The firm maintains a keen focus on execution, market, structural and financing risks.

Competitive Strengths

Interests aligned with investors through co-investment

The success of our firm and principals is closely aligned with that of our clients due to our commitment to co-investing.

Competitive Strengths

Family-owned, well-capitalized enterprise focused on long-term results

Although MREG has institutional standards, reach and talent, its roots are those of a family-owned business that focuses on active multi-generational investing rather than asset allocation. In its equity business, this allows the firm to pursue urban in-fill projects with long lead times. Many of MREG’s equity investments are intended to be held for the long-term. Because the firm is not singularly reliant on outside capital for development projects, MREG assets are not typically subject to the kinds of forced disposition or outside dates that often arise in the real estate fund context.

Competitive Strengths

Spirit of partnership and service

MREG promotes an internal culture of collaboration, creativity and client service for its investors, borrowers and partners, and supports communities in which it invests through partnerships and charitable foundations.
